RAYLEIGH WAY OF LIFE THREATENED

"Regional Government" demands thousands more homes.  Conservative councillors say: “Infrastructure first - expansion second.

Rochford District Council must provide sufficient land for another 4,600 dwelling units for the periods 2001 - 2021.  This is stated in the EAST OF ENGLAND PLAN produced by the EAST OF ENGLAND REGIONAL ASSEMBLY, a non-elected Government Body.

26 Draft of the RDC Core Strategy has been issued for consultation.  This in itself is something of a misnomer, Councillors were told that they no choice but to accept the figures, if they did not the GOVERMENT WOULD SIMPLY TAKE OVER. The only choice Rochford District Council has in the matter is where the "units" will be built, the Council's officers have suggested the following:

Rochford/Ashingdon - 1000;

Hockley/Hawkwell 400;

Rayleigh 1800;

Smaller settlements 50

At a meeting to discuss the issue Councillors were told that the area proposed to receive the new units would be western Rayleigh.  Wheatley ward will be affected.  Rayleigh has already been extensively developed, and the proposed 1800 dwellings would be a significant increase.  We all know just how congested the town can be at peak periods and how strained resources are at times.

We realise that people must have somewhere to live and many of us are incomers to Rayleigh, so we are not calling for a N.I.M.B.Y. position.  What we say is that the infrastructure must come first.  It is no good THE GOVERNMENT simply pouring more people in if the services collapse under the strain.

Sweyne Park Ward

Joan Mockford

Your Rochford District Councillor

Addressing concerns from some residents:

State of the road at the bottom of Victoria Avenue - an Essex County Council problem but I have been in touch with the Highways Department and stressed that it does need resurfacing.

Road sweeping and verges at the upper end of Victoria Avenue, Arundel Gardnes, Edinburgh Gardens, Stirling Close - Essex County Council. These roads have not yet been adopted and last week I chased this matter up and they assure me they are looking into it.

Regarding bullying of young children by teenagers in Sweyne Country Park - the Home Beat officer has been notified and he assures me that they will keep an observation on this.

Car speeding - the police are going to monitor this.

Please contact me, Joan Mockford, if you have any problems on 01268 781028 or e-mail joan@mockford.plus.com

Your Town Councillors work hard to make Rayleigh a better place to live.

Rayleigh in Bloom has just been judged, the result will be known in September. We are planning for spectacular Christmas Lights again this year.

There are new CCTV cameras in the High Street and are already proving effective.

The new pavilion in King George V playing field has been very successfully completed, UNDER budget.

Your town councillors are Joan Mockford, details above. Patricia Weaver - currently Chairman of Rayleigh Town Council (01268 784893 e-mail patweaver@lineone.net) and Roland Adams - Chairman of Planning,

AND FINALLY NO WE DO NOT WANT ALL THE EXTRA HOUSES IN RAYLEIGH.

We do not have the infrastructure to deal with such a large increase.

Promoted by Hilton Brown on behalf of Rayleigh and Wickford Constituency Conservative Association, both of 25 Bellingham Lane, Rayleigh, Essex, SS6 7ED
